Renault, the French carmaker known for bringing the Duster to India, is now planning a strong comeback with a brand-new 7-seater SUV named Boreal. This SUV will be designed to compete directly with popular models like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. The company has shared some early details, giving us a glimpse of what this upcoming model will offer Indian customers in the next couple of years.

Renault has already made a mark in India with value-for-money and durable cars. After discontinuing the Duster, they are now planning to re-enter the SUV market with something much bigger and bolder.

Boreal Will Be Built on Global CMF-B Platform

Renault’s upcoming 7-seater SUV will be based on the CMF-B platform, which is also used globally for many modern Renault-Nissan cars. This is the same platform that will also underpin the third-generation Duster. However, the Indian version of Boreal will get several India-specific changes in terms of features, design, and powertrain to match customer needs here.

The platform allows Renault to develop hybrid powertrains, which means Boreal will be available with both petrol and hybrid engine options. The focus will be on fuel efficiency, performance, and lower emissions—something modern Indian buyers are looking for.

Expected Engine Options in Renault Boreal

According to Renault’s strategy, the Boreal may offer two engine choices:

    • A 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid engine
    • A 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine

These engines will be designed for better fuel economy while also giving enough power for a full-size SUV. The company has also confirmed it is developing a strong hybrid system for India. So, this engine may be used not only in Boreal but also in the upcoming new-gen Duster.

Buyers may get to choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. The SUV will also offer multiple drive modes like Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road, and Eco, similar to what you find in the global models.

    Feature-Rich SUV With Modern Touch

Renault has not fully revealed the interiors of Boreal yet, but some features have been confirmed. The SUV will have a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

    Other premium features may include:

    • Mobile phone mount
    • Automatic climate control
    • Ventilated front seats
    • A 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel
    • Premium Arkamys 3D sound system for better audio experience

The teaser image shows Y-shaped LED headlights, which are similar to the ones on the new Duster. The SUV will also carry Renault’s new logo on the tailgate.

Renault’s Plan: Launch by 2026-End or Early 2027

As per reports, the Renault Boreal will first launch in Latin America and then reach India and around 70 other global markets. Its launch in India is likely to happen by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Interestingly, Renault’s alliance partner Nissan is also planning to release its own version of this SUV with a different design. This could give customers more variety in the 7-seater space.
